Edmonton, AB — June 25, 2026 — The Alberta-British Columbia Seed Growers (ABCSG) President Sarah Weigum was invited to a roundtable discussion in Edmonton with Federal Agriculture Minister the Honourable Heath MacDonald.

“I enjoyed the opportunity to share the priorities of the ABCSG and to highlight the value of our industry,” said Weigum. “I look forward to advancing the interests of seed growers while promoting the need for research and innovation at the provincial and federal level.”

Weigum and the Minister were joined by other Alberta agricultural association board members to share working knowledge of the issues facing producers in Alberta today.

“Focusing on the continued need for support in the research arena was top of my mind,” said Weigum. “all of the associated scientific work that surrounds and supports plant breeding will help strengthen our capacity and to enhance the quality and competitiveness of seed production in Alberta and British Columbia.”

Weigum also wanted to acknowledge the changing regulatory role with Canadian Seed Growers Association and the need for funding to support this new role.

“It’s incredibly important that regulatory and program changes are properly supported,” Weigum added. “Our success and competitiveness depends on it.”
